West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan resign New Delhi, June 30 (ANI): West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan on Monday resigned from his post amidst pressure on UPA appointed governors by the NDA government to step down. His resignation comes in the series of resignations of Governors who were appointed by the UPA government and have now been asked by the Narendra Modi government to quit on the grounds that 'they were not appointed on credit'. Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation had questioned Narayanan in the AgustaWestland chopper scam probe. MK Narayanan was the National Security Advisor at time of the chopper deal. 30-Jun-2014

Syndicate Bank and Allahabad Bank were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 11.85% and 8.91% along with CESC and JPPOWER with an increase of 8.69% and 8.62% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include United Spirits and Sobha Developers Ltd. with a decrease of 4.21% and 2.82% along with Bharti Infratel and TV18 Broadcast with a decrease of 2.72% and 2.25% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 41.27 points at 15,239.54 while the banking sector is up 293.34 points at 17,475.08 and the realty sector is up 21.56 points at 2,077.13. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 15.60 points up to stand at 7,508.80. Havells India and HDIL were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 6.21% and 6.09% along with Divis Lab and Future Retail with an increase of 5.99% and 5.78% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Indian Hotels and Ashok Leyland with a decrease of 4.83% and 4.62% along with Bharat Electronics Ltd. and National Aluminium Co.Ltd. with a decrease of 3.98% and 3.75% at the close of the markets. Finance Secretary highlights need to ins New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): Finance Secretary, Arvind Mayaram, on Tuesday laid emphasis on the need to boost investors' confidence to bring the country back on the path of growth and to spur economic expansion to its potential level. India will likely raise the foreign investment limit in government debt soon, as almost all the allocation has already been taken up as overseas buyers pile into the country's financial markets. The finance ministry will decide on the matter after consultations with the Reserve Bank of India and capital markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India. Air India joins Star Alliance group New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Tuesday announced the alliance of Air India with the Star Alliance group. The government expects that the step would help the ailing national carrier come out of its losses. BJP youth workers protest against SP gov Lucknow, June 30 (ANI): The youth wing of the BJP protested outside the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Monday against the failing law and order situation and power crisis in the state. Police lathi charged the protesters and used water canons and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Many were injured and later taken to hospital for medical attention. ISIS declares Islamic 'Caliphate', calls Iraq, June 30 (ANI): An offshoot of al Qaeda which has captured territory in Iraq and Syria has declared itself an Islamic "caliphate" and called on factions worldwide to pledge their allegiance. The move poses a direct challenge to the central leadership of al Qaeda, which has already disowned it, and to conservative Gulf Arab rulers. The group, previously known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and also as ISIS, has renamed itself "Islamic State" and proclaimed its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as "Caliph" - the head of the state. Pallavi Purkayastha murder case: Watchma Mumbai, June 30 (ANI): Almost two years after Mumbai lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha was brutally murdered inside her apartment building, the security guard of the building has been convicted of murder. He has also been pronounced guilty of molestation and trespassing by the Mumbai court. 25-year-old lawyer Pallavi Purkhayastha was brutally murdered at her Wadala apartment on August 9, 2012. She was killed by Sajjad Ahmed Mogul, the security guard of the building. Her fiancée, Avik Sengupta, who discovered her body, died of an illness in November 2013. 30-Jun-2014
DU students protest outside UGC, demand New Delhi, June 30 (ANI): Delhi University B Tech students on Monday protested outside University Grants Commission office demanding the continuation of their course and that too under the FMS tag. DU has also decided to discontinue its B Tech and BMS courses and would not hold any fresh admissions to them. Hundreds of students of these two courses gathered outside UGC and shouted slogans against the system of DU and UGC.
