Akhilesh Yadav holds meeting to review l Lucknow, June 10 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday held a meeting with the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police of all 85 districts of the state to review the law and order situation in the state. The meeting comes after hard criticism of Yadav government over the mishandling of the Badaun and other rape cases in the state by the political parties. Pillar of under construction flyover col Surat, June 10 (ANI): One death reported as pillar of an under construction flyover on Tuesday collapsed in Parle in Surat district of Gujarat. Rescue operations are on as some people were trapped under the rubble. Mayor of the city Niranjan Jajmera stated that the people are being rescued. Politicos condemn MCGM's direction to Ca New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): Politicos condemned the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai's (MCGM) alternative to the residents of the illegal flats in Campa Cola compound to hand over the keys to their flats to the civic body or face "legal action". BJP leader Satyapal Singh and Shiv Sena leader Vinayak Raut said that it is unfortunate that the residents are asked to vacate their place when the monsoon is approaching. Further, RPI leader Ramdas Athawale said that the Supreme Court and other authorities should think about the residents who have no fault of their own in the matter. 10-Jun-2014
Delhi students protest outside Harsh Var New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): Students seeking admissions in Delhi University colleges and their parents on Tuesday staged a protest outside Health Minister and BJP leader Harsh Vardhan's residence demanding quota in the university. They said that it was a part of BJP manifesto to provide concession for Delhi students in the university. The students complained that a majority seats in the central university are occupied by students from other states and students in Delhi face difficulty in getting admissions inspite of getting good percentage. Delhi University's high cut-offs have created concerns of failing to get seats in the four-year graduation course both among students and parents. 10-Jun-2014
Himachal Pradesh tragedy: 5 bodies found Hyderabad, June 10 (ANI): The bodies of four of the 24 students swept away on Sunday in a sudden surge of water released from a dam in Himachal Pradesh, arrived in Hyderabad city airport on Monday night. TDP leader Prathipati Pulla Rao said that the party leaders have spoken to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and will provide moral support to the parents. Rao added that four bodies have arrived at the airport and the bodies will be handed over to the parents immediately. Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, Md. Mahmood Ali called the incident unfortunate and added that the Telangana Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy and government officials along with a police team left for Himachal Pradesh to review the situation. 10-Jun-2014
China Foreign Minister meets Pranab, cal New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday the last day of his visit urging for greater cooperation and making a new beginning with the newly formed Modi government of the world’s largest democracy. Wang also addressed a news conference in New Delhi to deliberate on the issues discussed in the meetings. During his address, Wang expressed China’s interest for investing in India especially in infrastructure and manufacturing sector. Prior to his meeting with Mukherjee, he also called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the same day. The delegations of two countries, led by Wang and Modi, held diplomatic talks to discuss ways to make Indo-China bilateral relations stronger. Speaking on the trade issues, Wang regarded the meeting as a prelude to a bilateral free trade agreement which would help boost economic ties between the two Asian giants. 10-Jun-2014
Power Minister calls in emergency meetin New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday called in an emergency meeting with Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and senior government officials over the issue of power crisis in the national capital. Goyal said that preliminary inquiries suggest that there are problems of transmission over a decade. Delhi power crisis: AAP, BJP trade char New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday protested outside Delhi BJP chief Dr.Harsh Vardhan's residence over the power crisis that seems to be taking a toll on the residents of Delhi. The BJP and AAP blamed each other for the severe power crisis in the national capital. AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that his partymen were not at Vardhan’s place to protest, but remind him that he has a responsibility to the people of Delhi. Meanwhile, Vardhan hit out at Kejrwial saying that when AAP was in power for 49 days, the party did nothing other than agitations and staging 'dharnas'. Monsoon rains seen below average: Jitend New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh said that the monsoon is expected to bring below-average rainfall this year, potentially lowering grain yields, pushing up food prices and hurting the economy. Singh expects precipitation between June and September to be between 90 and 96 percent of the long-term average. Singh added that rainfall in July was seen at 93 percent of the long-term average, rising to 96 percent during August. 10-Jun-2014
Joint air exercise between India and Fra Jodhpur, June 10 (ANI): The joint exercise between air force of India and France concluded on June 09 as air chiefs of both the countries shared their experiences. The exercise, which was held in Jodhpur, aimed to expose Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots to French fighter and combat tactics and vice-versa. Decline of insurgency paves way for the Tripura, June 10 (ANI): Manu Valley Tea Estate in North Tripura is witnessing a boom. A few years ago, it was one among the many tea gardens in Tripura, which were on the verge of closing down due to rampant incidents of kidnapping and extortion by militant outfits. Plucking activities were almost ended in most of the estates as workers had left the area out of fear of the militants. However, with the decline in insurgency, the tea gardens have resumed production. The workers are happy to return to their traditional activities and earn a good livelihood. The tea industry in Tripura directly employs around 20,000 families. With the improvement in security situation, many small tea growers have started back to business. Tripura produces around 90 lakh kilograms of green tea annually and it aims to double the production in the next 5 years. 10-Jun-2014
Union Home Ministry reviews the progress New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): The newly appointed Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju reviewed the work of 6-member committee led by MP Bezbaruah and has sought an interim report by July this year. The committee comprising of retired IAS officers, student leaders and representatives from the northeastern states is looking into the concerns of the northeastern people residing across the country. The committee is interacting with students, professionals and various persons from Northeastern states living in metro cities across the country and seek their suggestions. Bezbaruah revealed that the committee has been looking into the possibility of enacting new laws to deal with racial discrimination.
