Preparations in full swing for oath cere Guntur, June 8 (ANI): Preparations are on at a stadium in Guntur district where TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, will be sworn-in as the first chief minister of new Andhra Pradesh, formed after separation of Telangana. Lakhs of people are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony, which will be held at a ground near Nagarjuna University in Guntur city. Nearly 10,000 police personnel will be deployed under the supervision of Director General of Police (DGP) J.V. Ramood and Inspector General of Police, Guntur Range, Sunil Kumar. Many senior leaders like LK Advani. Murali Manohar Joshi, Venkaiah Naidu, Arun Jaitley, Prakash Javadekar along with Chief Ministers of Goa, Rajasthan and Gujarat will attend the swearing-in ceremony. Tibetans protest in New Delhi against Ch New Delhi, June 8 (ANI): Tibetans took to streets to protest against the visit of China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, who arrived in New Delhi on Sunday to meet his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj in a bid to boost bilateral ties. Protesters shouted anti-China slogan, blocked roads and burned Chinese national flag, demanding the Indian government to raise the issue of Tibetans with its neighbour. At least 131 Tibetans have died since 2009 by setting themselves on fire in protest at Chinese rule, mostly in Tibetan areas outside what China calls the Tibet Autonomous Region. Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj holds bil New Delhi, June 8 (ANI): External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday met her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. The Chinese foreign minister is in India to establish political contacts with the new Indian government in order to boost the bilateral ties between the two countries. Devotees throng banks of Ganga to celebr Varanasi/ Allahabad/ Haridwar, June 08 (ANI): Thousands of devotees converged at banks of holy river Ganges to offer prayers to mark Hindu festival, ‘Ganga Dussehra’, which commemorates birth of the river on earth. Devout Hindus in Varanasi took a holy dip in River Ganges and prayed for their ancestors. Priests performed traditional Hindu rituals and chanted hymns on the banks of the river. Women and girls offered prayers for the well being of their families. Devotees assembled on banks from the crack of the dawn to take a holy dip and sought the blessings of the Hindu goddess Ganga to get rid of their sins. Prithivraj Chavan flags off Mumbai Metro Mumbai, June 8 (ANI): Maharashtra CM Prithivraj Chavan on Sunday inaugurated the much-awaited Mumbai Metro that promises to cater to lakhs of commuters per day on the 11-km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar route. Reliance Industries head Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani were amongst the early riders. Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) is a joint venture between Reliance Infrastructure, French firm Veolia Transport and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). While Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Infra, which is the execution agency, owns a 69 per cent stake in the project, the state-run MMRDA and Veolia hold 26 per cent and 5 per cent stake respectively. 08-Jun-2014

Chinese foreign minister arrives in New New Delhi, June 8 (ANI): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in New Delhi on Sunday to meet his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj in a bid to bolster bilateral ties between the two Asian giants. Wang, the special envoy of the Chinese president, will hold talks with Swaraj on Sunday. He will meet President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. Congress slams AAP over internal conflic New Delhi, June 8 (ANI): The Congress party questioned the stability of Aam Aadmi Party as rumours of a rift within the latter gained momentum, with members meeting in New Delhi to discuss the poll debacle, the deep differences among its senior members and the spate of resignations by prominent leaders tainting its reputation. The three-day Aam Aadmi Party national executive meet was chaired by party chief, Arvind Kejriwal, amid reports of infighting and a rift between party leaders, Manish Sisodia and Yogendra Yadav. Sisodia accused Yadav of disintegrating the party and targeting Kejriwal while Yadav claimed that the party was falling prey to a personality cult. Taking a jibe at this infighting, Congress leader, Arvinder Singh Lovely, said that AAP is a party of power hungry people with vested interests. Further, Congress General Secretary, Shakeel Ahmad, said that AAP is trapped in its own game. Mumbai metro set to roll on Sunday, stat Mumbai, June 07 (ANI): The much anticipated Mumbai metro will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan Sunday morning. This is India's first metro railway project implemented on a public-private partnership model by a consortium headed by RInfra since 2007, at a total cost of around Rs.4,300 crore. Accordingly, from Sunday the 11.4 km long Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar east-west corridor with 12 elevated stations en route will run from 5.30 a.m. till midnight at a speed of 80 kmph. Hardcore Maoists surrender in Odisha Odisha, June 7 (ANI): Four rebels of a hardcore Maoist organisation, CPI (Maoist) surrendered before police in Koraput district of Odisha.The police said their case is being recommended for rehabilitation under the surrender policy of Odisha government.The surrendered rebels included the area committee member, Krishana Praska, the other rebels -Raju Hikoka, Kosai Wateka alias Nirmala and Durjana Mandingi and all belonged to Srikakulam-Koraput divisional committee of the CPI (Maoist).Inspector General of Police, South Western Range, Yaswant Jethwa, said the rebels were carrying a cash prize of around Rs 1 lakh.Four active members of Maoist organisation, CPI (Maoists), including area committee member, a member of technical team of Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee and two more active members have surrendered. 08-Jun-2014
Malaysian woman raped in Jaipur, one hel New Delhi, June 7 (ANI): A Malaysian woman has alleged to have been raped by a man she met on an official trip to India. According to reports, the woman has told the police that the man took her to an isolated place where he gave her a spiked drink and allegedly raped her. One man has been detained. The accused, however, denied the allegations and said that the woman had planned everything in advance. Illegal sand mining in Etawah adds to la Etawah, June 07 (ANI): Illegal sand mining has become a major issue in Uttar Pradesh. Villagers in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh complained that sand from a natural lake in the area was being mined and at least 150-200 tractors worth of sand was being carted away from the area. Villagers also said no one has complained yet because they believe it to be a government property and they do not know whether the mining is illegal.
