Chandrababu Naidu met NDA ministers over New Delhi, June 27 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, met cabinet ministers to discuss state-related issues. Earlier, Naidu also met Power Minister Piyush Goyal over assistance for uninterrupted power supply at reasonable rates. Goyal said that the central government wanted to see Andhra Pradesh as a state model in terms of power and ensured all round development of the state. A politician from Andhra Pradesh, Yalamanchili Satyanarayana Chowdary, said matters pertaining to petro-corridor were discussed. India grants financial aid to Bangladesh Dhaka, June 27 (ANI): India announced grant of nearly $10 million to Bangladesh for implementation of various small development projects and also assured it to address trade imbalance issue. The grant was announced by Foreign Minster Sushma Swaraj, who is on a visit to Bangladesh to bolster bilateral ties and also discuss important matters like Teesta water sharing and Land Boundary Agreement and the issue of illegal immigration. Swaraj also held talks with her Bangladesh counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka, to bolster strategic partnership. Swaraj said India valued Dhaka's friendship, adding that the country was committed to move beyond quota-free and duty-free regime to strengthen trade ties. 27-Jun-2014
Lakshmikant Sharma and others sent to ju Bhopal, June 27 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Former minister was sent to jail over alleged involvement in Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, in which many government employees are under scanner for getting selected through unfair means. Special Task Force (STF) constituted for an investigation into MPPEB scam, or Vyapam scam, detained Laxmikant Sharma, former state technical education minister, for interrogation. STF inspector, Indresh Tripathi, said total 15 people have been sent to judicial custody. India's Congress party had accused leaders of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of being involved in the scam. At least 12 killed in blast at GAIL pipe Andhra Pradesh, June 27 (ANI): At least 12 people were killed and 18 others injured after an explosion at a gas pipeline at the site of the state-owned Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) in Andhra Pradesh. The blast took place at 5:30 AM due to a gas leak in a pipeline near a refinery at Nagaram, around 560 km from Hyderabad. A massive fire broke out after the blast. Eight fire engines were rushed to the spot and the fire has been brought under control, officials said. The gas supply line has been cut off. Meanwhile, Prime Minister expressed condolences and tweeted, "My thoughts with the families of those who lost their lives in the GAIL Pipeline fire in AP. Prayers with the injured." He also said, "I have spoken to the Petroleum Minister, Cabinet Secretary and GAIL Chairman and asked them to ensure immediate relief at the accident site."According to official sources, those who suffered burns are being shifted to Amalapuram and Kakinada hospitals. Indian youths take FIFA fever to hair-ra Jalandhar, June 27 (ANI): Hair salons did brisk business in Punjab with youngsters rushing to ape the hair styles of their favourite football players, as FIFA fever gripped the entire country. Talking to a media person hairstylist, Ijaz Hassan Salmani, said that young boys throng salons with pictures of football players on their phones and laptops. He added that his salon is doing business even during what is considered an off season, because of the FIFA madness taking hold of youngsters in the city. Madhuri Dixit becomes brand ambassador o Bhopal, June 26 (ANI): The health department of central Indian Madhya Pradesh and the state unit of UNICEF appointed Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit as brand ambassador of a state scheme promoting mother and child welfare. Dixit along with state chief, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and health minister of Madhya Pradesh, Narottam Mishra launched the second phase of the campaign on Thursday in Bhopal city. Indian PM accepted invite to visit Bangl Dhaka, June 26 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday highlighted the relations between Bangladesh and India post Indian Foreign Minister's visit to the neighbouring country. MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that Bangladesh has assured that it will not allow its territory to be used against India. Swaraj met Hasina to discuss key bilateral issues, after meeting Ali. The two foreign ministers discussed the Teesta water sharing and Land Boundary Agreement, and Swaraj also raised the issue of illegal immigration. The two leaders also discussed economic ties and cooperation. However, no major pacts or agreements are a part of the 'goodwill' visit, which is aimed at further enhancing relations between the South Asian neighbours. Young Indian girls design jeans to prote Varanasi, June 26 (ANI): Two young Indian engineering students have designed a jeans fitted with a walkie-talkie in an attempt to prevent rapes and other crimes against women. The jeans, the brainchild of Diksha Pathak and Anjali Srivastava, will alert the police or a guardian by a mere press of a button in case a woman senses any threat. Pathak and Srivastava, who hail from the temple town Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh where crimes against women have been rising, created the device in order to help women safeguard themselves if faced with an untoward situation. JuD blacklisted: Praful Bakshi says US r New Delhi, June 26 (ANI): Commenting on the United States' move to include Jamaat-ud-Dawa in its list of terrorist organizations, Praful Bakshi, Wing Commander (Retd) Indian Air Force, on Thursday said that this move implies that the US is rethinking on Pakistan and has, therefore, approached India to help it. He said that JuD was involved in terror attacks in Herat, Bombay and Karachi airport, and added that this group is getting arms and money from their sympathizers in other countries. N Srinivasan elected as the first ICC Ch June 26 (ANI): Narayanaswami Srinivasan has been elected as the first chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the amendments to the ICC's Memorandum and Articles of Association was approved by full council at the annual conference in Melbourne on Thursday. Srinivasan was appointed as the Chairman despite being barred by the Supreme Court of India from giving out his duties as BCCI President due to an ongoing probe into the match-fixing allegations of IPL 2013. United Nations General Assembly in 1987 decided to observe June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. The organisers hoped the campaign would send out a strong message of positive health, fitness and well-being and encourage participants to adopt a healthy lifestyle and build a drug-free environment. Holy men in Assam take a break from spir Guwahati, June 26 (ANI): As the world's top soccer teams vie for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, football fever swept through the alleys of a revered shrine in India's northeast where holy men took a break from their spiritual odyssey to indulge in some football banter. Holy men came down from their Himalayan hideouts and hermits across the country for the annual Tantric fertility festival at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati city of Assam. The holy men, in town to perform sacred rituals during the four -day festival, were seen relaxing from the rigors of their spiritual life by playing out a game of soccer on the footsteps of the shrine with hundreds of onlookers cheering them on. He claims he was just eight-year-old when he caught the first snake, thinking it to be a fish. Ever since he has been catching snakes as the fear-factor began to fade. He claims to have caught over 4000 snakes so far. The snake lover said he recently got a call regarding a python being spotted in a nearby house and rushed to the spot to catch it but couldn't.
