Finance minister gives final touches to New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): Finance minister Arun Jaitley on Friday gave final touches to 2015-16 budget a day ahead of its presentation in Parliament. Activists condemn rape of Sikkim girl in New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): Condemning the alleged rape of a 25-year-old girl from Sikkim by a doctor in the national capital as 'extremely disturbing', activist Binalakshmi Nepram on Friday warned of a strong protest if an attempt is made to hush up the matter. People expect cheaper food, tax reforms Panaji/Dharamsala, Feb 28 (ANI): Indian citizens hope food and healthcare will be cheaper and tax reforms will be made in the annual budget 2015-16 to be released on Saturday. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will present his first full-year budget, seeking to put Asia's third-largest economy on a path of 7-8 percent growth over the next two years. The 2015-16 budget is billed as a "make-or-break" event for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's eight-month-old government. The 2015/16 budget is expected to give a big push to Modi's 'Make in India' campaign, with tax breaks and other incentives for several sectors. Jaitley has promised to implement a nationwide Goods and Services Tax (GST) from April 1, 2016. He introduced a bill in Parliament in December to rationalise state and central indirect taxes into a harmonised sales tax. ATM van looted in Lucknow, Three dead Lucknow, Feb 27 (ANI): Three security guards were killed after some unknown miscreants opened fire on them and looted cash from HDFC bank's ATM booth in Hasanganj area of Lucknow. Reportedly, the incident took place when the custodians of the cash van were in the process of refilling money into an ATM of HDFC bank. Storm kills one, displaces thousands in South Dinajpur, Feb 27 (ANI): A powerful storm flattened thatched houses and uprooted trees and electric poles in several villages in West Bengal. The storm accompanied by heavy rains hit Balurhat block of South Dinajpur. A man named Jatha Tudu, (35), resident of Vatpara village, died while several others got injured. An affected villager, Kamal Hasti, of Jalghar village said that they were inside their houses when the storm hit. Thousands of thatched houses were blown over in the powerful storm rendering more than 5,000 villagers of Jalghar and Vatpara homeless. The local administration has begun rescue operations. Reactions from political circle over Rai New Delhi/Patna, Feb 26 (ANI): Reactions poured in on Thursday after Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu presented his maiden railway budget. Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas said that the overall budget is very good. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that expectation was that the fares would reduce but nothing such happened. Earlier in the day, while presenting his railway budget, Suresh Prabhu said the railway has to undergo a transformation over the next five years. Delhi court gives interim bail to RK Pac New Delhi, Feb 26 (ANI): Delhi court on Thursday granted interim bail to Rajendra K Pachauri, one of the world's top climate change officials, till next hearing that is to take place on March 27. Blast in Kashmir injures six Shopian, Feb 26 (ANI): Six civilians sustained injuries in a grenade blast in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Among the six, one is critical.
