Mexican mountaineer recounts Nepal earth Kathmandu, April 30 (ANI): A Mexican mountaineer who was climbing up Mount Everest when a deadly 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal returned home to Mexico and recounted his dramatic story of survival as avalanches roared down the massive mountain. The avalanche on Mount Everest killed at least 18 climbers and guides, including four foreigners, the worst disaster on the world's highest peak, at the start of the main climbing season. But Pastor's position on the mountain and the organisation at his camp allowed him to emerge unscathed. Tourism ministry officials in Nepal have estimated that at least 1,000 climbers, including about 400 foreigners, had been at base camp or on Everest when the earthquake struck. Germany says it will help rebuild Nepal' Kathmandu, April 30 (ANI): Germany's ambassador to Nepal said his country would help rebuild Nepal's cultural heritage after last week's earthquake which has left over 5,000 people dead and tens of thousands homeless. Matthias Mayer said Germany had teams in the country helping with crucial issues like water supply and medical treatment. The ambassador said his country would also help rebuild Nepal's cultural heritage of the country, especially in the ancient temple town of Bahktapur, east of Kathmandu. Researchers found that shoppers can be primed to buy more produce when they eat a healthy item before shopping and that individuals who ate an apple sample before shopping bought 25 percent more fruits and vegetables than those who did not eat a sample. Researchers explained that having a small healthy snack before shopping can put people in a healthier mindset and steer them towards making better food choices. The festival is popular with locals for the elephant parade where hundreds of tuskers decorated with traditional caparisons offer a visual treat to the devotees. The festival attracts foreign tourists from far off countries because of its rich tradition that dates back to the 19th century. Photographers have a field day capturing the colourful rituals. Held at the Vadakkunnathan Temple in Kerala's Thrissur city, the festival is celebrated on the day when the moon rises with the Pooram star in the Malayalam Calendar month of Medam, generally between April and May. Rains hit bus services; quake survivors Kathmandu, April 30 (ANI): Rains lashed Nepal for the third consecutive day on Thursday (April 30), hitting bus services in the quake-hit Himalayan country. Even as road services resumed, people could not avail them following downpour that has been disrupting relief and rescue operations in the country. The Indian government had deployed buses to facilitate the return of nationals and foreigners. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had also announced the provision of free visas to foreigners wishing to come to India. A few passengers who managed to board the buses said they have been sleeping outside the vehicle in hope of getting back home. Nepal has been receiving rain since Tuesday (April 28). Nirbhaya's mother said that she can understand the mother's pain and that she has been in this pain since three years. According to reports, a 13-year-old girl died and her mother suffered serious injuries yesterday when they had to jump out of a moving bus to avoid molestation by some youth near Punjab's Moga town. The girl was declared brought dead by the doctors. The police have impounded the bus. Pak Human Rights activist Sabeen Mahmud Karachi, April 29 (ANI): Rights activists and civil society in Pakistan are continuing their protest seeking the arrest of the killers of Sabeen Mahmud who was gunned down by unidentified men on Saturday. Though investigations are on, no arrests have been made in the case so far. No groups have also claimed responsibility of the murder. 40-year old Mahmud was laid to rest on Saturday by family and friends in southern Karachi. Many said with her death the Pakistani civil society has lost someone who stood for the rights of the oppressed. Mahmud ran an open forum in Karachi called 'The Second Floor' for discussions on human rights abuses and other civil rights issues. MNS workers allegedly attack Jogeshwari Jogeshwari, April 29 (ANI): Workers of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena allegedly attacked the hawkers and vandalized their hand carts at Jogeshwari in Mumbai's western suburb, claiming that they were operating there as 'outsiders', causing inconvenience to the people. Search operations have been intensified by the Mumbai Police to nab the four accused who were booked for attacking the vendors. Reportedly, around 20 to 30 MNS workers arrived at Jogeshwari shouting slogans and began beating up the hawkers and vandalized the fruits, vegetables and other items being sold by the hawkers. Doctors from various countries in Nepal Kathmandu, April 29 (ANI): A collective team of doctors from several nations including India and China are treating quake-affected people in Kathmandu’s government hospital. Nepal's government-run Bir Hospital has been accepting most of the trauma cases after a magnitude 7.9 earthquake hit Nepal on Saturday (April 25). Fractured arms and legs are most common injuries among the people. According to last reports, hospital has seen over 100 deaths so far. Most of the deaths have been a result of multiple organ injuries. Meanwhile, anger and frustration was mounting steadily on Wednesday (April 29) morning, with many Nepalis sleeping out in the open under makeshift tents for a fourth night since Nepal's worst quake in more than 80 years. TMC emerges clear winner in West Bengal New Delhi/Kolkata, April 28 (ANI): The Trinamool Congress (TMC) party on Tuesday emerged clear winner in the West Bengal municipal corporation elections and retained control of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). The civic polls were held in 91 municipalities across the state, out of which TMC emerged winner in 73 municipal bodies. Ninety-one civic bodies, including KMC, went to elections in the state on 18 and 25 April. The civic polls had recorded a voter turnout of 79 per cent. Repolling in 36 booths in over five districts took place on Monday after reports of booth-capturing and booth-jamming. There is no ban: Kiren Rijiju on reports New Delhi, April 28 (ANI): MoS for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said that the Government is not banning any NGO and they are only in the watch list because of specific inputs.
