Fifty-three infants die in 10 days in Od Cuttack/ Bhubaneswar/ New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): At least 53 infants have died over the past 10 days at a premier state-run hospital in Odisha, sparking furor among residents. The deaths have forced the government to order an enquiry against the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Pediatrics (SVPPGIP), also known as Sishu Bhawan, in Cuttack. Meanwhile, Odisha's Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak reached the hospital to assess the situation after the father of a dead child alleged that medical staff mistreated the poor. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the central government has extended all help to the state. A team of officials from Delhi, led by additional secretary of Central health ministry, Arun Panda, had also visited the hospital last week and assured help to the hospital and state government. The families of deceased infants have accused the medical staff of negligence. However, the hospital authorities have refuted the allegations. A four-member technical team has been set up to inquire into the deaths of infants that include a pediatrics doctor from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The team has been asked to submit a report based on which further action would be taken. 31-Aug-2015
Harish Rawat meets Jaitley over loss aft New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Monday met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to discuss about loss the state faced after implementation of 14th Finance Commission's recommendation in respect to total allocation. Rawat also said that the state has sought funds for the forthcoming Kumbh to be held in January. He said that he has been assured of every possible help. PM Modi meets President-elect of UNGA New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met President-elect of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Mogens Lykketoft, in New Delhi. The talks revolved around reformed United Nations Security Council (UNSC). India pressed its demand for a permanent seat in the UNSC during talks. Modi is scheduled to visit New York in the last week of September to attend the UNGA session. Lykketoft will succeed Uganda's Sam Kutesa as President of UNGA in September. 31-Aug-2015

An institute in WB works for handicapped West Bengal, Aug 31 (ANI): There are many social organisations and institutions in the country, which work towards building an inclusive and better society by helping children in need. One such example is 'Benajira Awasik Pratibandhi Vidyalaya' in Bankura city of West Bengal. It is an institute for handicapped people, belonging to different communities. Regardless of their religion, the children are looked after by dedicated teachers who provide care and a healthy atmosphere. The institution is a home to the children, belonging to poor families. Here, children eat and study together and are taught the lesson of humanity and communal harmony. The friendliness between them has been a way of life here for centuries. A similar scene is witnessed during the urs of sufi Saint Hazrat Mir Mah Ji Kamli in Nawakadal area of Srinagar, where devotees from all faiths come to pay respects to the saint. The valley of saints, Kashmir is dotted with the shrine of Sufis who preached love and oneness among the people. People of all faiths held them in high regard and follow their teachings. Laying the sacred cloth, people prayed for well being and fulfillment of their wishes. Men and women, who were part of the celebrations, were chanting hymns to please the saint and invoke his blessings. Rajiv Mehrishi takes charge as the new H New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): The newly appointed Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi took charge of his office on Monday. Mehrishi was appointed as the new Union Home Secretary after LC Goyal took voluntary retirement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the appointment of Rajiv Mehrishi, who was till recently functioning as Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs. Egypt sets election date for Oct, after Cairo, Aug 31 (ANI): Egypt has been without a parliament since June of 2012 when a court dissolved the democratically elected body. That is now set to change. The head of Egypt's High Elections Committee, Ayman Abbas, announced that the first round of voting will begin on October 18th. Voting was originally scheduled for March of this year, but was delayed when a court ruled part of the election law unconstitutional. The second round of voting is now scheduled for late November. Egypt's transition to democracy has been rocky since the fall of the Mubarak regime. Current President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi toppled Egypt's first freely elected president, Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood, in 2013. 31-Aug-2015

Sheena Bora murder case: All 3 accused s Mumbai, Aug 31 (ANI): The hearing in the Sheena Bora murder case resulted in extension of police custody till September 5 for all the three accused on Monday. Prime accused in the case- Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai- were produced before Bandra Magistrate's Court in Mumbai for the proceedings. According to reports, Indrani fainted in the court premises briefly and was provided medical assistance immediately. She was also allowed to meet her daughter Vidhi in court by the magistrate. Fresh charge of attempt to murder (Section 307) has been added by prosecution against Indrani and she has also been accused of attempting to kill Mikhail Bora, as per reports. Earlier, Indrani Mukerjea's counsel had complained to Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria that his officers are resorting to pressuring methods to extract a confession from her. The counsel said that she was not allowed to meet her client late on Saturday night and that Indrani's face was bruised and swollen. The lawyers also alleged that the Mumbai police had beaten her up in custody, according to reports. 31-Aug-2015

At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 30.65 points down to stand at7,971.30. SREI Infra Structure Finance Ltd and NIIT Technologies Ltd were among the top gainers of group A with an increase of 8.24% and 7.42% along with Muthoot Finance Ltd and Punj Lloyd Ltd with an increase of 7.11% and 6.20% respectively, while the top losers of group A includes Sunrise Asian Limited and Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd with a decrease of 9.97% and 6.89% along with Mahindra and Mahindra Finance Services Ltd and Kailash Auto Finance Ltd with a decrease of 4.97% and 4.71% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 138.23 points at 17,865.27 while the Banking sector is down 66.27 points at 19,637.15 and the Realty sector is down 17.07 points at 1,260.66.
