Ex-servicemen renew agitation over OROP Mumbai, Oct 31 (ANI): Protesting the delay in notification of One Rank, One Pension (OROP), war veterans led by United Front of Ex-Servicemen Movement (UFESM) organised a rally in Mumbai on Saturday. OROP is a scheme that will ensure uniform pension payments to ex-servicemen who served at the same rank and for the same amount of time, regardless of the year they retired, among other measures. The government accepted several demands of the war veterans last month after they sat on hunger strike for days. But some sticking points still remain. A war veteran and Vir Chakra awardee, Pervez Jamasji, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government ‘just made promises’ like many of its predecessors. Another point where the veterans and the government differ is the constitution of a judicial commission. The veterans want the judicial commission to have five members instead of one, comprising of three ex-servicemen, one serving officer and a bureaucrat. Another veteran, Ravinder Vabhak Pathak said that similar rallies would be held across India to put pressure on the government. 31-Oct-2015
