Patidar community clarifies Hardik Patel New Delhi/ Surat, Oct 04 (ANI): The convener of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti, Hardik Patel was caught in controversies over his statement in which he said that farmer should not commit suicide; instead those who have led farmers to such a condition should not be spared. Reports suggest that Patel had said that farmer can kill policemen but not themselves. Shashank Manohar to be elected unopposed Mumbai, Oct 04 (ANI): A special general meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled in Mumbai on Sunday, where Shashank Manohar is all set to take over the as the new BCCI President. The post has been left vacant after the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya last month. According to reports, all the six units of East Zone unanimously proposed Manohar's candidature for the President's post. A BCCI by-election needs only one proposer from the zone which is electing the President and Manohar got the nod from all the six associations. Dadri lynching case: BJP pulls up Akhile Kanpur/ New Delhi, Oct 04 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday blamed the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party Government for the Dadri lynching case. BJP's UP President Laxmikant Bajpai said that SP is giving the incident a communal colour. BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said that the UP government should ensure proper law and order in the state. Last Monday, following the spread of a rumour that 50-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq and his family had consumed beef, a mob barged into their home and lynched Akhlaq to death. Papaya stolen from BJD leader's garden, New Delhi, Oct 04 (ANI): An MLA from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Arjun Charan Sethi's son Rama Sethi said on Sunday that security measures should be made stricter around their place as incidents of theft are becoming common. 59 dead, hundreds missing in Guatemala l Guatemala, Oct 04 (ANI): Rescue workers scrabbled through earth and rubble in search of survivors of a massive landslide in Guatemala that killed at least 59 people, even as hopes began to fade for hundreds of others still missing. Diggers plowed into the mounds of earth that destroyed homes in Santa Catarina Pinula on the southeastern flank of Guatemala City looking for about 350 people who authorities said were still unaccounted for after Thursday night's disaster. Loosened by rain, tons of earth, rock and trees cascaded onto part of the town from the hillside above, flattening houses and trapping residents who had gone home for the night. Julio Sanchez, a spokesperson with the volunteer firefighters, said they had confirmed 59 dead, including three victims whose bodies had just arrived in the past hour. Among the dead were 17 children, and there were at least 26 people reported as injured. Around 1,800 soldiers, firemen and neighbours helped with the rescue efforts, according to a spokesman for disaster agency Conred, who said some homes had been buried under about 50 feet (15 meters) of earth. The search would continue for at least 72 hours after the disaster, but officials said the likelihood of locating survivors after that was slim. 04-Oct-2015

Nearly 10,000 students in Punjab perform Amritsar, Oct 04 (ANI): Nearly 10,000 school students performed group dance in Punjab with the aim to create a Guinness record and to spread awareness against drug abuse. The event, organised by the chairman of Sun Foundation, Vikramjit S Sahney, with the help of local administration, was held at Khalsa College in Amritsar city. Sahney announced that Sun Foundation will partner with the government and run a skill and occupational therapy centre in Amritsar. The entire event was monitored by 10 security cameras and judged by 200 judges for five-minute synchronised performance by the largest gathering of participants. Former Indian cricketer, Bishan Singh Bedi, was the chief guest at the event. A young participant expressed her joy over her involvement in creating awareness against drugs abuse. Dr Pere visits door-to-door in slum areas to sensitise eligible inhabitants to exercise their franchise with utmost wisdom for a change of their status quo, as just complaining about their problems won't serve the purpose. She told them to come out and vote in large numbers to a candidate with clean image, who could fulfill their needs. Atletico de Kolkata beat Chennaiyin FC i Chennai, Oct 04 (ANI): Defending champions Atletico de Kolkata began their title defence with a thrilling 2-3 win away to Chennaiyin FC in the opening match of second season of the Indian Super League (ISL) in Chennai. Fans in large numbers attended the opening ceremony that was held before the inaugural match. Many artists and actors performed during the ceremony including Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Oscar winning musician AR Rahman among others. The Chennaiyin FC is owned partly by cricketer MS Dhoni. Last season, Chennaiyin FC had managed to reach the semi-finals but lost to Kerela Blasters by the margin of 4-3. Atletico de Kolkata, on the other hand, is partly owned by Spanish football club Atletico Madrid and former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly among others. The tournament will see eight teams including Chennaiyin FC, FC Goa, Kerala Blasters FC, and Delhi Dynamos FC among others battle it out for the top spot. Major fire at furniture market in Gurgao Gurgaon, Oct 04 (ANI): A major fire broke out in a furniture market late on Saturday night, gutting more than 25 shops in Gurgaon city. According to the shopkeepers furniture worth millions of rupees was reduced to ashes. Due to Diwali season, the market was largely stocked. The cause of the fire is not known. According to information, the shops housed LPG cylinders and the fire increased due to that. Fire tenders have brought the flames under control after 4 hours of strenuous efforts.
