India unveils climate target to cut carb New Delhi, Oct 02 (ANI): India has promised to make its economy more energy efficient and cut the carbon produced per unit of GDP growth by 33-35 percent by 2030 from 2005 levels, ahead of a UN summit in Paris in December. The pledges, submitted to the United Nations late on Thursday (October 01), were broadly in line with expectations, given emerging economies such as India have resisted setting specific targets to cut emissions. Union environment minister Prakash Javadekar said on Friday that India will also pledge to make a carbon sink by increasing forest cover. As well as not setting such a timeline, India did not give a commitment in its submission to establishing carbon trading. New Delhi also stressed that coal would continue to dominate power generation for its more than 1 billion people in the future, though emphasised its commitment to clean energy technologies. 02-Oct-2015

India should respect Nepal's sovereignty Kathmandu, Oct 02 (ANI): Prime Minister aspirant and chairman of Communist Party of Nepal, Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, said India should respect the sovereignty of the country. Oli was addressing a news conference in capital Kathmandu. The statement comes days after Nepalese government started rationing fuel for vehicles after hundreds of lorries carrying food and fuel were blocked at the border with India, following agitation by Madhesi community over the Himalayan nation's newly-adopted constitution. India, Nepal's largest trading partner strongly denies a trade blockade, saying its trucks have been hampered from entering Nepal firstly due to security concerns and later because protesters were blocking the roads. Oli said that there were internal problems prevailing in the border region but the blockage of lorries were on the Indian side. Vasundhara Raje embarks on Water Conserv Jaipur, Oct 02 (ANI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje embarked on Water Conservation Program in 100 villages of Rajasthan.Recently a meeting was held to finalize the draft of Work Guidelines of the Mission. CM Raje asked officials to make sure that in selected villages water conservation activities should be completed in a time-bound manner so that people could get benefits of these works. She also enunciated that the public participation should be ascertained by sensitizing villagers about proper use of the available water. Under the Mission watershed works would start in the selected villages at grand scale on 27 January, 2016 with a target for completion of these works for conservation and storage of water would be 30 June, 2016 so that the next rainy season water could be properly harvested. Cut found in railway track near Lucknow, Lucknow, Oct 02 (ANI): A major tragedy got averted on Friday when the driver of a local train alerted authorities that there was something wrong on the track at Mohanlalganj area of Lucknow. PM Modi pays homage to Lal Bahadur Shast New Delhi, Oct 02 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to his predecessor Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 111th birth anniversary. "Shastri ji is remembered for his simplicity & integrity. His firm leadership during testing times became a major asset for our nation," he added. Prime Minister Modi further said, "We remain eternally inspired by Shastri ji's clarion call of 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' & are working determinately for the welfare of the farmer & the soldier." Shastri was India's second prime minister and was in office from June 9, 1964 to January 11, 1966. He was the first person to be posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna. Reacting over the same, grandson of Lal Bahadur Shastri Vibhakar Shastri said that PM Modi uses 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan' in his speeches but doesn't come to pay tribute to Shastri. Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India and a leader of the Indian National Congress party. He was also one of the loyal followers, first of Gandhi and then of Jawaharlal Nehru. Nepal's cable federation suspends Indian Kathmandu, Oct 2 (ANI): Nepal's cable federation suspended Indian television channels and the government started rationing fuel for vehicles at India-Nepal border amid protests against the newly-adopted constitution. Hundreds of lorries carrying food and fuel lined up on the Indian side, while protesters on the other side of the border sat on the road to block their path. Some lorries started to move across the Sunauli-Bhairahawa border crossing, a customs official in Nepal said, but more than 1,000 trucks were still stranded on Indian side. Tension between the South Asian nations had spiked since Nepal adopted a new constitution last week, upsetting southern minority groups who fear being marginalised in a new federal structure. The Federation of Nepal Cable Television suspended broadcasting of Indian channels in Nepal to protest against the blockade. More than 40 people have been killed in protests in the Himalayan republic since August. Indian oil trucks stopped crossing into Nepal because of protests in the south, prompting authorities to try to limit the use of cars and conserve fuel. 02-Oct-2015

Man sneaks a gun through metro security; New Delhi, Oct 02 (ANI): In a major security lapse, a 22-year-old man managed to enter the metro station loaded with a gun and shot himself at the busy Rajiv Chowk station in Delhi. The man was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital and is undergoing treatment. According to reports, the man who is a resident of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh was carrying a country-made pistol that went unnoticed during the security check at Chandni Chowk metro station. Reportedly, he got down at Rajiv Chowk, moved towards the exit at Platform 3 and shot himself on the shoulder near a ticket counter. Sushma Swaraj rejects Pakistan peace pla New York, Oct 02 (ANI): Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj rejected a four-point peace plan for Kashmir proposed by Pakistan but said talks among officials of both countries on terrorism that collapsed in August should be revived. Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced his proposal at the annual United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, saying the two nuclear-armed countries should formalise a ceasefire in Kashmir and take steps to demilitarise the divided region. On Thursday, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj told the UN General Assembly that India remained open to dialogue, "but talks and militancy cannot go together." Swaraj said the talks between national security advisers on all issues related to militancy should be held, as well as an early meeting of senior military officials to address the situation on the border. Planned talks between national security advisers from India and Pakistan were cancelled in August hours before they were due to start, dashing hopes the two might tackle the violence that many fear could one day spark a nuclear showdown. 02-Oct-2015

Students in Vadodara commemorate first a Vadodara, Oct 2 (ANI): Over 5,000 students from 120 different schools of Vadodara in Gujarat formed the face of Mahatma Gandhi to commemorate the first anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's flagship 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' or Clean India Campaign. Modi launched the ambitious campaign in October 2014, to improve the poor state of sanitation in the country within five years. Gujarat Finance Minister Saurabh Patel said the event was a tribute to Gandhi's penchant for cleanliness by commemorating the first anniversary of the cleanliness campaign. Less than a third of India's 1.2 billion people have access to sanitation and more than 186,000 children under five die every year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation, according to the charity WaterAid. The United Nations said in May 2014 that half of India's people defecate outside - putting people at risk of cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, hepatitis A and typhoid.
