PM Modi meets French President Francois
Paris, Nov 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met French President Francois Hollande on the sidelines of the Paris COP 21. Modi and Hollande are scheduled to launch international solar alliance later in the day, aimed at eventually bringing clean and affordable solar energy within the reach of all. An Indian government statement on Sunday (November 29) said there were well over 100 solar-rich countries in the tropics that could be members of the International Solar Alliance to develop clean and affordable solar energy. World leaders are all set to begin their round of talks with the objective of achieving an elusive agreement to counter global warming, which has reached calamitous levels. Prime Minister also met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif at COP 21 here today. The two leaders shook hands and exchanged pleasantries. During the conference, India's 25-member delegation will focus on Prime Minister Modi's call for 'Climate Justice' that he had made in his address at the United Nations General Assembly last month. |

Paris, Nov 30 (ANI): French riot police continued to clash with climate protesters in Paris, ahead of the international climate conference set to begin on Monday. Groups of protesters in front of Place de la Republique threw objects at police, inciting them to spray tear gas and charge towards them. Other demonstrators tried to quell the situation by telling violent protesters to stop throwing objects, to no avail. The demonstrators were gathered after a large march was cancelled due to the state of emergency put in place by French authorities after a series of attacks in the French capital on November 13 that killed 130 people. French President Francois Hollande will host 147 heads of state and government for the World Climate Change Conference (COP21), which aims to secure a binding commitment from participating countries to reduce global emissions and keep temperature rises to below two degrees Celsius. |
