Indian fishermen protest outside Sri Lan Chennai, Feb 29 (ANI): Indian fishermen protested outside the Sri Lankan consulate in Chennai over a demand for the release of fishermen who had been arrested recently for allegedly trespassing into Pakistan’s territorial waters. The arrested fishermen were charged under the Foreign Act and the Fisheries Act. The arrest came just a week after Pakistani authorities detained 88 Indian fishermen and 16 boats. 29-Feb-2016

Buddhist monks review life of Dalai Lama Dharamsala, Feb 29 (ANI): Dozens of Buddhist monks and devotees participated in a four-day seminar to review the life and practices of their spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, in Himachal Pradesh state. The seminar was organised at Gyuto Monastery in Dharamsala, where the monks read out Buddhist scriptures and expressed their gratitude to the Dalai Lama. An Associate Professor at Central University for Tibetan Studies in Varanasi, Jampa Tsamten, said the Tibetan community was indebted to the Dalai Lama for his tireless efforts. Debates over 20 topics, including the spiritual leader’s life and education plans, political responsibilities, Tibetan medicine, democracy and modern science among others were conducted during the seminar. 29-Feb-2016

There is something for everyone in Gener New Delhi, Feb 29 (ANI): Former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha on Monday praised the general budget proposals for fiscal 2016-17 presented by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Parliament, saying that the latter has passed the test, as there is something for everyone in this budget. Dubbing the budget proposals as ‘progressive’ and ‘visionary’, he also said that this budget is for everyone. Finance Minister sets aside Rs 87,765 cr New Delhi, Feb 29 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has set aside Rs 87,765 crore for rural development. Out of this, Rs 38,500 crore has been allocated for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act this year which is the highest allocation given to the scheme. The minister added that the government is committed to achieve 100 percent village electrification by May 1, 2018. The finance minister also announced a massive mission to provide LPG cylinders to 1.5 crore households below the poverty line. Rs 2,000 crore has been allocated for this. Rs 55,000 crore has been set aside for developing roads and highways. The total investment in the roads sector is Rs 97,000 crore. The total outlay on roads and rail will be Rs 2.18 lakh crore. 29-Feb-2016
Finance Minister announces Rs 151,581 cr New Delhi, Feb 29 (ANI): The Finance Minister announced an outlay of Rs 151,581 crore for the social sector, including education and health. Focusing significantly over the social sector, Finance Minister Arun Jaitely on Monday said that the government has decided to embark on a massive mission to provide LPG connection in the name of women members of poor households. He added that a sum of Rs 2,000 crore has been set aside in this year’s Budget to meet the initial cost of providing these LPG connections. 29-Feb-2016

General Budget 2016-17: Jaitley stresses New Delhi, Feb 29 (ANI): India is listed as being among the top 10 agriculture-based countries in the world and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday, while presenting the General Budget 2016-17, stressed on the need improve agricultural productivity and the lot of farmers. He said the government would aim for doubling the farmers' income in the next five years. Jaitley laid thrust on the rural sector and social sector, including healthcare, educational skills and job creation, to make India a knowledge based productive economy.
