Amritsar (Punjab), May 15 (ANI): Incidents of stubble burning, which contributes significantly to air pollution was spotted in parts of Amritsar.  “The practice are being notices in isolated pockets and not all over the district”, said Amritsar DC Kamaldeep Singh Sangha. According to a recent National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) study, stubble burning in Haryana and Punjab has a strong link with PM2.5 levels in Delhi during the post-monsoon months of October and November.

Security beefed up in Hyderabad ahead of

Hyderabad, May 15 (ANI): Arrangements have been made and security has been beefed up in old Hyderabad city ahead of commencement of Ramzan on Tuesday. More than 1500 police personnel have been deployed including Women Force ahead of the month long Ramzan. “Since South Zone is a very sensitive area, we have deployed sufficient forces in order to prevent any untoward incident. Right from the early morning prayers to midnight prayers”, said DCP V Satyanarayana, Hyderabad South Zone. People in old city flocked markets for Ramzan shopping.

Bengaluru (Karnataka), May 15 (ANI): A day before counting of Karnataka Assembly elections that held on May 12, a Congress delegation met Karnataka Chief Election Commissioner on Monday and demanded action against party in connection with alleged seizure of postal ballots from a hotel in Badami. They also demanded that all EVM’s and VVPAT’s to be displayed to agents at the counting table. EC said that they did not find any postal ballots in the hotel, however, they have registered a case and investigation is underway.

New Delhi, May 14 (ANI): In yet another shocking incident, a 55-year-old man was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants outside his residence in New Delhi's Kabool Nagar area on Sunday. The man, identified as Rakesh Jain, was first murdered by the two miscreants who then looted cash of about Rs. 3 lakh and ran away with his scooty. The entire incident was caught on CCTV. Protesting PoK activists demand justice

Rawalakot (PoK)/ London, May 14 (ANI): A massive protest rally was held against Pakistan and its secret services agencies on Sunday at Khaigala city (near Rawalakot) of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to mark the fifth death anniversary of Sardar Arif Shahid. Khaigala is the hometown of Arif Shahid, chairman of the All Parties National Alliance (APNA), who was killed on May 14, 2013, at his residence in Rawalpindi by some unidentified gunmen. Demonstrations and events were held across PoK and parts of Europe on the same day. In Rawalakot city, a large number of people gathered to pay obedience to Kashmiri leader who was allegedly killed by Pakistan's Inter-services Intelligence (ISI). Shahid was critical of Pakistan for its illegal occupation of the territory and other human rights abuses. In Bagh, PoK, activists of United Kashmir People's National Party held a protest to demand the arrest of Arif Shahid's killers. They also raised slogans against Pakistan for illegally occupying their territory. The Jammu Kashmir National Independence Alliance (JKNIA) also organised a protest outside Pakistani consulate in Bradford and raised slogans against Pakistan for denying justice to Arif Shahid. They shouted slogans such as 'Who killed Arif Shahid? ISI... ISI...' and 'Pakistani forces... out... out...' In London, the Jammu Kashmir National Awami Party (JKNAP) organised a protest outside Pakistan High Commission to demand immediate arrest of killers of Arif Shahid.

West Bengal panchayat polls begin

South 24 Parganas (West Bengal), May 14 (ANI): The much-awaited West Bengal panchayat polls began at 7am on Monday. The voting will continue till 5 p.m. in 621 zilla parishads, 6157 panchayat samitis, and 31,827 gram panchayats. The counting will take place on May 17. Voters queue up outside a polling booth in Sirakole village in South 24 Parganas district. Considering the history of violence in the state panchayat polls, elaborate security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order during the polling.
