E-filing of IT returns up by 40%

New Delhi,  Data tabulated by the Income Tax (IT) department has highlighted a 40 per cent hike in incremental growth in the e-Filing of IT returns. As on August 26, data which was accessed by ANI showed that more than 4.37 crore returns were filed for the financial year ending March 31 against 3.10 crore returns for the financial year 17-18 (Assessment Year 16-17). Furthermore, data revealed that the IT department has already processed 62 lakh refund for the current assessment year, till August 26, against 23 lakh cases in the same period last year. Thus, reflecting an incremental growth of more than 168 per cent.

He will also hold bilateral talks with his counterparts of other countries on the sideline so the summit. The fourth BIMSTEC Summit will conclude today with the issuance of Kathmandu Statement.

IRCTC scam case: Tejashwi Yadav, Rabri D

New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and her son Tejashwi Yadav appeared before the Patiala House Court in New Delhi in connection with money laundering case related to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in 2006. Both Rabri and Tejashwi were granted bail on personal bonds. The court has issued a warrant in the case against Lalu Yadav to produce him before court on October 6. Lalu Yadav along with his wife Rabi and son Tejashwi have been named in the charge-sheet filed by Enforcement Directorate (ED) for alleged money laundering hotels maintenance contract. RJD leader Manoj Jha said that the party has full faith and judiciary and they will get justice.

SC defers hearing on Article 35A to Janu

Srinagar (J&K), Aug 31 (ANI): Supreme Court on Friday deferred the hearing on Article 35A to January 2019 challenging the Constitution which grants special status to permanent residents of the Jammu and Kashmir state. The article provides the special rights and privileges to the permanent residents of the state.  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and lawyer Muzaffar Hussain Baig praised the Supreme Court’s decision and said it was a wise and deliberate decision by the court. “There is no harm is adjourning the case but there was harm in continuing hearing the case as that would disrupt the local body (Panchayat) polls,” he added.

Malda (WB), Aug 31 (ANI): In a shocking incident, a three-year-old child was shot at because his mother had ‘defected’ to Trinamool a day before the panchayat board formation on Thursday in West Bengal’s Malda district. The child was rushed to the hospital where he is undergoing treatment. The incident took place in Malda district where the panchayat board is to be constituted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During the violence, the child was hit by a bullet. Victim’s mother Putul Mondal won a seat on the BJP ticket on the board of the Manikchak panchayat, but she later moved to the TMC. Miscreants, allegedly led by Block BJP leader Anil Mandal, attacked Mandal’s home after winning the Manikchak panchayat board. The couple managed to escape, miscreants shot their minor child in the head while he was laying on the bed inside the house.  Police have lodged a case and investigating the matter.

Supreme Court to hear petitions challeng

New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): Supreme Court on Friday will hear Petitions challenging Article 35A of the Constitution which grants special status to permanent residents of the Jammu and Kashmir state. The article also provides the special rights and privileges to the permanent residents of the state.  Life in the state came to a standstill on August 30 due to a complete shutdown called by separatists against the legal challenge in the Supreme Court on the validity of Article 35A. Since August 1, there have been several protests in Jammu and Kashmir against any change in articles 35A and 370. State’s regional parties like National Conference and Peoples’ Democratic Party also hitting streets on the issue. Article 370 grants special status to the state, article 35A disallows people from the rest of the country from buying or owning immovable property in Jammu and Kashmir, settle permanently, or get state government jobs.

Fuel Price hike: Resident face difficult

New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): People are facing problems due to rise in the price of petrol and diesel. Fuel prices was increased on August 30 with petrol being sold at Rs 78.30 per litre in Delhi and at Rs 85.72 per litre in Mumbai, as per the data provided by the Indian Oil Corporation. Diesel prices shot up to Rs 69.93 in the national capital and Rs 74.24 per litre in Mumbai. On August 26, petrol was sold at Rs 77.78 per litre in Delhi and at Rs 85.20 per litre in Mumbai while the cost of petrol in Kolkata was Rs 80.71 per litre. The hike was not limited to petrol alone as diesel prices also saw an all-time-high record price in the national capital.

Woman rescued from drowning in the sea a

Mumbai, Aug 31 (ANI): A 27-year-old woman was rescued from drowning in the sea at Bandra Bandstand. The woman was saved by clean-up marshals. They rescued her with the help of a rope. The woman was accompanied by her kids and brother at the time of the incident. Sea waves had hit the rock where the woman was sitting. As she lost her balance, she was dragged by waves in the sea.

Anti-govt protests held in Sindh on Inte

Sujawal (Pakistan), Aug 31 (ANI): Massive anti-government protests were held across Sindh and other provinces of Pakistan as family members of missing persons demanded their early release on the International day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. The day is observed throughout the world to draw attention to the crime of the state whereby individuals are picked up and kept in habeas corpus and incommunicado without any legal representation. Even after various protests against the state, the situation is still not considered a human rights issue. It is only recently that the courts have termed enforced disappearances a heinous crime. The exact number of missing persons in Pakistan is not yet known. From Sindh province, the organization compiling the list of missing persons, The Voice of Missing Persons of Sindh claims that since January 2016 to date, 196 persons were missing, out of them 26 were released after serving many months in the private detention centers of Rangers and other law enforcement agencies. The organization claims that during the year of 2018, a total number of 55 persons are missing. There were 1,532 pending cases with the Commission of Inquiries on Enforced Disappearances (CoIED) in the beginning of 2018 and 116 more cases were registered in February 2018 alone.
