Lucknow (UP) Sep 29 (ANI): Kalpana Tiwari, wife of deceased Vivek Tiwari, who was shot dead by a police constable in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar area on September 28 said, “Police had no right to shoot my husband. They could have arrested him. I demand UP CM to come here and talk to me”. He was injured and later succumbed to injuries after a police personnel shot at his car late last night, on noticing suspicious activity. Police alleged that the constable tried to stop the youth’s car, but he refused to do so. He ran over cop’s bike after which constable opened fire on him. The youth was declared dead in the hospital. The policeman was detained and further investigation is underway.

Lucknow (UP), Sep 29 (ANI): Additional Director General of Lucknow, Anand Kumar while commenting on the investigation going on the death of Lucknow resident Vivek Tiwari who was shot dead by a police constable, said, “Post-mortem report of the deceased establishes that there was a firearm injury from a bullet on the left side of deceased’s chin. Viscera of the deceased (Vivek Tiwari) has been preserved”. He further added, “Thorough investigation is being conducted to establish the sequence of the events. We will take advice from the medical expert. Reaching final conclusion at this moment will be immature in this case. Under what all circumstances he lost his life that need to be probed thoroughly. We will investigate who all are the culprits as one person has lost his life in this whole incident”.

Gorakhpur (UP), Sep 29 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on death of Lucknow resident Vivek Tiwari who was shot dead by a police constable said, "It was not an encounter. An investigation will be conducted in this incident. If needed, we will order a CBI inquiry into the incident". Tiwari, an Apple employee was injured and later succumbed to injuries after a police personnel shot at his car late last night, on noticing suspicious activity. Police alleged that the constable tried to stop the youth's car, but he refused to do so. He ran over cop's bike after which constable opened fire on him. The youth was declared dead in the hospital. Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Sep 29 (ANI): Union Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday addressed mediapersons on the second anniversary of Surgical Strike. The Union Minister on being asked about publicising the Surgical Strike, said, “The Army did its job after being in an unprovoked attack in their own military base where they were sleeping. There are always rules of engagement when there is a war. But was there a war? No, they killed sleeping soldiers. And if our soldiers have taken this action, are we to be ashamed of it and we have to keep it under the wraps?” She further added, “I would believe an action of this kind would deter Pakistan from training and sending terrorists. My action will continue at the border irrespective of whether they have learnt a lesson or not.”

Hyderabad, Sep 29 (ANI): All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday reiterated that Triple Talaq ordinance is not unconstitutional under law. While addressing a gathering, Owaisi said, “It has been a year that the Supreme Court has given its verdict on Triple Talaq. Is the Prime Minister not reading the judgment? Can’t Law Minister read it? Nowhere in its judgment did the Supreme Court say that Triple Talaq is unconstitutional. But you, in your ordinance said that.”

Lucknow man shot dead: Constable says he

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Sep 29 (ANI): An apple executive Vivek Tiwari was shot by a police constable in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar on Friday. Man was declared dead in the hospital.  The constable claimed that he opened fire on him as he was trying to run over him and kill him. “At 2 am last night, I saw a suspicious car with its lights off, when I approached the car, the driver (Vivek Tiwari) tried to run over me thrice to kill me. I fired a bullet in self-defense, he then immediately took off from the spot,” said constable Prashant Chaudhary.

At least 23 people died in on foot-over bridge stampede connecting Parel-Elphinstone Road stations on September 29, 2017. 13th Mountain Terrain Biking rally flagg

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Sep 29 (ANI): 13th edition of Mountain Terrain Biking (MTB) rally was flagged off from Shimla today.  81 bikers from 14 different nations are participating in rally which will cover four districts of Shimla, Kullu, Mandi and Kangra. The riders will complete 651-kilometer-long rally on October 6 reaching Dharamsala. The rally organised by HASTPA (Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association) aims to promote cycling and tourism in the state. The MTB Himalaya is considered to be one of the toughest endurance tests in cycling. The participants will have to peddle hard across varied elevations across hills.

Fuel price hike: Petrol, diesel touch ne

New Delhi/Mumbai, Sep 29 (ANI): Fresh hike has been witnessed in the price of petrol and diesel on Saturday morning. In the national capital, petrol is being sold at Rs 83.40 per litre, with an increase of Rs 0.22 from Friday. On the other hand, diesel is being retailed at Rs 74.63 per litre, with an increase by Rs 0.21. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, price of petrol has touched new height. Petrol and diesel are being sold at Rs 90.75 per litre, with an increase by Rs 0.22 and Rs 79.23 per litre with an increase by Rs 0.22, respectively. People all over the country are facing difficulties as fuel price has been witnessing a steep rise since past few weeks.

The Russian-made weapons were stolen from Jabalpur Ordnance factory in Madhya Pradesh. Employees of gun depot were involved in the smuggling. Mumbai, Sep 29 (ANI): Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is on his India visit and he plans to visit Dharavi in pursuit of fighters. He addressed a press conference in Mumbai and said that he will definitely go to Dharavi as most successful fighters in the world are from slums. “I am myself a slumdog and grew up in the slums, I had an ambition and I followed,” said Tyson. He is in Mumbai to attend the first match of the Mixed Martial Arts Kumite 1 League. Mike Tyson at the age of 20 years became the youngest heavyweight champion of the world in 1988.

Locals rush patient to hospital on a cot

Mayurbhanj (Odisha), Sep 28 (ANI): Locals rushed a patient to hospital on a cot due to lack of proper roads. A critical patient was again compelled to be carried on a cot to the hospital as ambulance could not reach his village because of inaccessible road conditions. The incident was reported from Kaladiha village under Bangoriposi block of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, where Sumati Marandi was carried on a cot by his family for nearly one kilometer. Sumati was suffering from diabetes and needed urgent medical attention after her condition was deteriorated today. Due to non-motorable road, neither ambulance nor any other vehicle could reach the village. With no other option, the family rushed Sumati to hospital on a cot with the help of ambulance worker. The road construction work is incomplete due to callous attitude of the Rural Works Department (RWD) and district administration. Not only Sumati, several other villagers in these villages are also afflicted in Mayurbhanj district. Local residents alleged that the district administration is also not paying any attention for the development of infrastructure in the region of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. "As the approach road conditions are not good so the ambulance cannot reach there but patient are carried by cots, I will talk to concern authority to take necessary action for the approaching road" said Gangadhar Nayak, Additional District Magistrate of Mayurbhanj. This Bangoriposi constituency belongs to Former MP and Minister Sudam Marandi of BJD Government, Odisha.

Amaravati, Sep 28 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced one crore compensation to the family members of slain TDP MLAs Kidari Sarveswara Rao and ex-MLA Siveri Soma. The Chief Minister said, "The killing of MLA K Sarveswara Rao and former MLA Siveri Soma is very painful. I condemn it." "Government will give financial aid of Rs 1 crore to K Sarveswara Rao's family and a house plot in Visakhapatnam and one government job to a family member. The government will give financial aid of Rs 10 lakh each to six family members of Siveri Soma and house plot in Visakhapatnam," CM Naidu added. Apart from the financial aid from the state government, CM Naidu said, "On behalf of TDP, Rs 5 lakhs will be given to each of the family members of Siveri Soma and members of K Sarveswara Rao's family."

New Delhi, Sep 26 (ANI): Congress veteran leader Kapil Sibal said that the Aadhaar Act was not only unconstitutional but also against democracy. He also said that the party is of the opinion that Aadhaar Bill should be discussed in Rajya Sabha. “There would have been no need to go to the court if they let it be discussed in Rajya Sabha. If they heard us back then, then crores of people’s data, which is now with private companies, could have been saved,” added Sibal.  “This was not Aadhaar Act this was 'Sarkari Adhikar Act'. It was not only unconstitutional but also against democracy. Today, the Supreme Court has read down Section 57 that gave people’s personal data to private companies. The apex court also said that that government can’t leak people’s data under the pretext of National Security. There’ll be a proper procedure which has to be followed," Sibal added.

New Delhi, Sep 26 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday welcomed Supreme Court’s decision on Aadhaar card. “Supreme court has validated Aadhaar card as an identity card but has not made it compulsory,” he said. Welcoming the decision, Subramanian Swamy said, “Earlier Aadhaar was compulsory for NEET exams, buying phone etc. Now all these are not compulsory.” The BJP leader further added, “The Aadhar data that was leaked to American companies was in a way a betrayal to the country.”

New Delhi, Sep 26 (ANI): Lawyer Prashant Bhushan on Wednesday hailed the Supreme Court’s decision on Aadhaar card as ‘historic’ and said that this would provide relief to common man. Speaking on the issue, Bhushan said, “In a historic decision the Supreme Court has said that no private company can ask for Aadhaar card, also no banks, schools, airlines can. Only government schemes in which subsidies are given can ask for Aadhaar card. Justice Chandrachud said that the Aadhaar Act could not have been brought like Money Bill and that is why it is unconstitutional. The common man will get relief from this judgement.” In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutional validity of Aadhaar today.

New Delhi, Sep 26 (ANI): In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutional validity of Aadhaar on Wednesday. A five judge bench led by the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, was hearing a clutch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhar. The bench also comprised of Justices AK Sikri, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and Ashok Bhushan. Justice Sikri while reading out verdict on constitutional validity of Aadhaar said, “There is a fundamental difference between Aadhaar card and identity. Once the bio-metric information is stored, it remains in the system.” Sikri added, “Aadhaar empowers the marginalised section of the society and gives them an identity, Aadhaar is also different from other ID proofs as it can't be duplicated.” The apex court said that UIDAI collect minimal demographic and biometric data of citizens for Aadhaar enrolment and Aadhaar number given to a person is unique and can't go to any other person. Justice AK Sikri asks Centre to "introduce strong data protection law as soon as possible." The apex court said that Aadhaar is not compulsory for UGC, NEET and CBSE exams. SC also ruled that Aadhaar is not needed for school admissions and for opening a bank account. Supreme Court struck down the section 57 of Aadhaar Act; as a result, private companies cannot ask for Aadhaar data and no mobile company can demand Aadhar card. Though, Aadhaar will be mandatory for PAN linking.

Mayawati said, “The news around this judgment that is circulating in media states clearly, that the judgment of the Supreme Court is welcoming to some extent in a manner that the court had neither put any restrictions earlier nor it has put any restrictions now. It has clearly said that centre or state governments can provide reservation if they want.” The Supreme Court on Wednesday said its 2006 decision in the M Nagaraj case on the reservation for SC and ST in job promotions does not require reconsideration by a larger bench. The top court has maintained reservation on promotion of the SC/ST.

Barmer (Rajasthan), Sep 26 (ANI): A woman was allegedly given triple talaq over phone 23 years after marriage in Rajasthan’s Barmer.  She said that her husband demanded dowry from her and when she was unable to give the money, he thrashed her and finally gave her triple talaq. While telling her story, the victim said, “For many years my husband was beating me and giving me continuous pain. He was demanding money and I did not have so much money. My father has also died so I could not arrange money. He ousted me from his home and gave me triple Talaq.”

Barasat / Siliguri / Ikchapur (West Bengal), Sep 26 (ANI): Protests turned violent in many parts of West Bengal amid statewide shutdown on Wednesday. All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers launched a physical assault on Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) workers and supporters who had gathered in support of the bandh called by BJP. In Barasat, a woman supporter, among others was brutally attacked. Two supporters of bandh were attacked in Siliguri. BJP has called for a 12-hour bandh in West Bengal today in protest against the death of two students in a clash with police in North Dinajpur's Islampur. Two students were allegedly killed in police firing in Islampur.

Nagaraj case: SC refuses to refer judgem

New Delhi, Sep 16 (ANI): The Supreme Court Wednesday said its 2006 decision in the M Nagaraj case on the reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in job promotions does not require reconsideration by a larger bench. The top court has maintained reservation on promotion of the Scheduled castes/Scheduled tribes (SC/ST). Lawyer Manoj Gorkela said, “We had made filed a plea that M Nagaraj should be finished. The court said that there is no need to collect quantified data on the case. The court has also upheld that SC/ST does not need backwardness collection. The case was not referred to larger bench. Through this judgement the SC/ST people have received a big relief.” A five bench court had pronounced the judgement. The final judgment in the case is yet to come.

Activists highlight worsening human righ

Geneva, Sep 26 (ANI): Baloch political activists have accused Islamabad for violating human rights, inequality and rise of religious fundamentalists in Balochistan, which is responsible for destruction of cultural identity of the Baloch people.  Speaking during the 39th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Munir Mengal, president of Baloch Voice Association said, “During the last seventy years of the Islamic state existence, and particularly its security forces, have treated the Baloch people as occupants. Their xenophobia about the Baloch people is most evident in their crude behaviour and disproportionate response to the most genuine and fundamental demands of the Baloch people to hounour their dignity, identity, culture and respect their sovereignty on their land.” Baloch woman activist, Karima Baloch, also accused Islamabad for racial discrimination against the Baloch people.

Himachal Pradesh rains: IAF rescues 5 fo

Kullu (Himachal Pradesh), Sep 26 (ANI); Five foreign nationals from Denmark and Norway were rescued by Indian Air Force chopper from Lahaul-Spiti today. They were stranded in the region from last two days and were airlifted to Kullu. Several districts in Himachal Pradesh have been battered after continuous rains. Three IAF choppers have been deployed for rescue operations. “We will try to airlift and rescue around 150 people today. We will also rescue those stranded in Keylong and nearby areas”, said Kullu DC Yunus Khan.

5 northern states agree on uniform fuel

Chandigarh, Sep 26 (ANI): Five states of northern India, namely, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have decided to form a uniform price for fuel. In a meeting where representatives and officials from these five states including Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal were also present. Haryana Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu said, “Today in Chandigarh the northern states comprising of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh ministers had a meeting. In today’s meeting, a committee was formed to ensure that fuel consumers should be charged a uniform price.  Manish Sisodia gave a suggestion that the policy of excise department and liquor trade will also be uniform.”
