ISRO: India crosses 300-plus foreign satellites launch mark

Sriharikota (Andhra Pradesh)/UNI: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a major milestone when it successfully ferried more than 300 foreign satellites from the spaceport of Sriharikota, today.

With the launch of 13 nano satellites from the US, riding piggy-back on India's own earth observation satellite Cartosat-3, ISRO has so far launched 310 foreign satellites for a fee, which was considered far less when compared to other countries.


Incidentally, the milestone was achieved by the ISRO's workhorse launch vehicle PSLV, which had in the past proved its mettle by launching more than 100 satellites in a single mission and placing satellites in three different orbits, thereby proving its trustworthiness
as the most reliable launch vehicle for ISRO.


Till date India with its PSLV rocket has launched 297 foreign satellites. With today's PSLV-C47 mission, India crossed the 300-foreign satellite milestone taking the numbers to 310. The order to launch the 13 American nano satellites was bagged by the newly formed NewSpace India Limited, the commercial arm of the ISRO.


ISRO sources said the NewSpace India will also act as the nodal agency for production of PSLV and Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLV) through industry consortia and partners and the first SSLV mission was likely in early 2020.
