PM Modi leaves for South East Asia tour on Tuesday, will visit Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia

New Delhi, May 29 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Indonesia on the first leg of his official visit to South East Asia on Tuesday, according to media reports.

PM Modi expressed confidence that his visit will further elevate bilateral ties, media reported.

He will pay official visit to the Republic of Indonesia (May 29-31) and Republic of Singapore (May 31-June 2) at the invitation of President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, and Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, respectively.

PM Modi will also make a brief stopover in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 31,  2018 to meet the newly elected Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Mohammad.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister’s official engagements in Jakarta and Singapore include bilateral meetings with the leadership, delegation level talks, meetings with the business and Indian communities.

In Singapore, Prime Minister will also deliver the key-note address at the 17th Shangri-la Dialogue.

Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, three countries in ASEAN, are Strategic Partners of India.

According to the External Affairs ministry, the Central government attaches high importance to its relations with the ASEAN region and is committed to deepening its relationship with individual ASEAN member states, within the framework of the government’s Act East Policy.
