Male, Nov 17 (IBNS): Indian PM Narendra Modi on Saturday departed for New Delhi after ending his short trip to Maldives to attend the swearing-in ceremony of country's new President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Modi also met Solih after he took oath.

Modi described his meeting with the leader as 'productive'.

" Had productive discussions with President @ibusolih," the Indian PM tweeted.

In another tweet, Modi said he is looking forward to work with the President and strengthen India's relationship with the island nation.

"Congratulations to Mr. @ibusolih on taking oath as the President of the Maldives. Wishing him the very best for his tenure ahead.
Looking forward to working with him to strengthen bilateral relations between our nations," Modi tweeted.

Solih defeated strongman Abdulla Yameen in September polls.
