Asian Games: Neeraj Chopra shines on day 9, clinches gold in men's javelin throw

Jakarta, Aug 27 (IBNS): Indian flag was held high in Jakarta, Indonesia on Monday, as Neeraj Chopra clinched the country's eighth gold in the ongoing Asian Games 2018.

Chopra won a gold medal in men's javelin throw with a best of 88.06m.

On the other hand, Neena Varakil won a silver medal in women's long jump event with a mark of 6.51 m.

Thirty two year-old Sudha Singh won a silver medal in women's 3000m steepchase.

Ayyasamy Dharun added to India's tally of medals by winning silver in 400m hurdles.

Dharun won the silver by running a national record time of 48.96s.

Losing to Taiwan's Tai Tzu Ying in the semifinal, badminton player Saina Nehwal settled for a bronze medal on the ninth day of the competition.

Saina won the medal in women's single.

The 28-year-old player lost to her Taiwanese competitor 17-21, 14-21.

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu defeated Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in women's singles event on Monday to reach the final of the competition.

Sindhu won the match 21-17, 15-21, 21-10.

India are presently at the ninth position with a tally of 41 medals.
