Despite PM's 'Make in India' pitch, Chinese products dominate Indian markets

Kanpur, Oct 29 (ANI): Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging people of the nation to choose home grown commodities over foreign-made products, Chinese apparels continued to dominate Indian markets in the lead up to Diwali (festival of lights) this year. Notably, a large variety of attractive electric lights are flooding the markets. Beautiful lights in the form of coils, ropes, chandeliers, balls and garden lights manufactured in China are available. Chinese goods are a lot cheaper than their Indian counterparts. This has forced a lot of small vendors in India to shut shops and become traders. In the past few years, imports from China have changed from low-value, low-cost items like lights and crackers to high-value items like electronics and machinery.
