Sri Lanka votes to elect new PM

Colombo, Aug 17 (IBNS) Voting for Sri Lanka's General Election is currently underway as more 15 million voters are expected to exercise their franchise on Monday.

The focus of the poll is on ex-strongman Mahinda Rajapakse who is running for prime minister.

He had lost the presidency eight months ago.

Under tight security, voting started at 7am and is scheduled to continue till 4 pm.
